Knute Erikson, The Mad King, was once King of the Ignan Plane. Born to Leif Erikson IV, Knute was raised in the royal palace in the Azer capital, The Brass City. He showed prodigious gifts in his youth and excelled at the many hobbies and crafts of the Azer. However, as adolescence wore on, his behavior began to grow increasingly erratic. With the death of Leif Erikson IV, Knute was crowned King of the Azers. In a few years he had come to earn the nickname “The Mad King,” for his peculiar way of running the realm. The breaking point for his people was when he tried to marry a water nymph. There were riots in the capital and a mob burst through the palace gates, unopposed by the palace guards. They found the queen-to-be and stabbed her to death. In the aftermath of the chaos, the crown was seized by the king’s cousin, Radovan the Coldsbane and the king was exiled. The Mad king was banished from the Ignan plane, and it is rumored that he now walks the plane of men, seeking to gather enough strength to reclaim his kingdom and avenge the death of his murdered bride to be.
